At-home Sperm Analysis

Results in 48 hours | Free shipping | CLIA-certified lab

We've partnered with Legacy to bring you the most rigorous at-home semen analysis on the market. Know where you’re at with a detailed, personal, and private fertility report that breaks down how healthy your sperm is today.

The Legacy Sperm Analysis looks at key metrics to determine the health and quality of sperm: volume, count, concentration, motility, and morphology. The clinical analysis evaluates sperm for all five factors individually, providing a better picture of male fertility.

In the kit:

A sterile sample cup to easily collect your sample from home

The Legacy “vault,” a foam insulating structure to keep a stable temperature and prevent leaking during transportation

The transport media — a vial of pink fluid — to keep sample viable during shipping

A tamper-proof strip to securely seal the shipping box

Free overnight shipping to send your sample to our lab for analysis

Basic Testing

Semen volume: How much semen you’re producing

Sperm concentration: How many sperm are present in your semen

Sperm motility: How many of your sperm are moving — a crucial indicator of your sperm’s health and fertility

Total motile sperm count: The final calculation of your sperm quantity and quality, which is highly correlated to your chances of creating a pregnancy

Sperm morphology: How many of your sperm are the proper size and shape

Post-thaw analysis: We freeze and thaw a small portion of your sample to assess if it’s a good candidate for cryopreservation (sperm freezing)

Advanced Testing

Everything in basic plus

DNA fragmentation: The degree of damage to the genetic information carried by sperm

Who Should Do Advanced Testing?

Those with unexplained infertility, or who have experienced failed IVF cycles.
In about 15% of cases, those with high DNA fragmentation will have normal parameters on an initial semen analysis. This means that exploring sperm’s genetic health can offer an explanation as to otherwise unexplained infertility, or can help your healthcare team understand why a fertility treatment cycle has failed.

Those who have had multiple miscarriages.
The difficult experience of miscarriage often doesn’t have an identifiable cause. High fragmentation has been correlated with pregnancy loss. Sperm DNA fragmentation testing may be able to give clues as to the cause of recurrent miscarriage.

Those over 40 years old.
Sperm DNA damage is more likely with age, and average level of fragmentation increases about 33% between age 30 and age 50. Therefore, clients over 40 should consider more in-depth fertility testing.

Cryopreservation and Storage

*After first year you will be billed directly from Legacy for continued storage.

Sperm is frozen using liquid nitrogen. First, sperm are gently mixed with a cryoprotectant, a substance that draws water out of the sperm cell to prevent damage during freezing, in cryogenic vials. Next, they are plunged into liquid nitrogen to freeze them at a temperature of -196ºC or lower.

Finally, the sperm vials are transferred to liquid nitrogen storage tanks to maintain their low temperature for long-term sperm storage.

What happens if my sample is not deemed viable for freezing?

If your analysis reveals that your sample isn’t viable for freezing — for example, if no sperm was found in your sample — you have a few options. You can speak to one of our male fertility specialists to understand what may be affecting your fertility, as well as some next steps you may want to take. You also may want to re-test to confirm any abnormal results.

Don’t worry: if your sample is deemed not viable for storage by our lab, we’ll refund you for the storage plan you purchased as well as any unused services, such as additional testing that could not be performed.
